The Sator Magic Square is a square-shaped epigraph (actually there are also circular and rectangular ones) found over the centuries in many areas of Europe, containing five words arranged on five lines: SATOR, AREPO, TENET, OPERA, ROTAS. The peculiarity is that by superimposing one word on another you get a palindrome sentence, which remains the same read in any direction.
The words of the Sator Square can be read horizontally (from the first to the fifth line) or vertically (from the first to the fifth column), or horizontally from the fifth line to the first (from right to left) or vertically (from bottom to top) from the fifth to the first column. An apotropaic effect is attributed to it, that is, a sort of spell to prevent misfortunes or a sort of magic formula to heal from an illness or to overcome some difficulty.
